What to Know about Choosing the Right Bed Sheets

guide to bedding

Few things are as important to health as sleep. Year after year this is revealed more and more, science discovering more about how the brain works. Yet still, while people are constantly worrying about sleep, few consider what they are sleeping on. Sheets are an essential component of the quality of one’s sleep, and much beyond that.

Everyone’s heard to change their sheets weekly, but there’s real science behind that. The daily buildup of dirt and grime will slowly make sleeping an unpleasant experience for everyone. A week is the suggestion, but going 20 days without changing one’s sheets leaves people feeling very unsatisfied.

Beyond cleaning one’s sheets, the type of sheets is of equal importance. For example, there’s single-ply, two-ply, deep, standard, high thread count, low thread count, and various other variations of sheets. There’s white sheets, colored sheets, and beyond that bright colors versus neutrals versus earth tones. Each of these will produce a unique experience for one’s bed.

The easiest trick for bed sheets is knowing one’s bed. A mattress topper, firm mattress, soft pillows, these all require different bedding. No one is obligated to create any one type of bed. Everyone has their unique preferences. What’s important is looking into how to achieve those preferences, no matter how small or large.

All of this works towards better sleep. There are few things more important than what one is sleeping on. It’s astounding then how little people tend to know about their beds and the difference changes in bedding could make.
