Gestational diabetes is a disorder which will affect around four percent of all pregnant women in the
United States. It is not entirely understood why some women get it because it normally disappears once the baby is born. One theory is that the stress of the pregnancy itself causes it, but whatever the cause any woman who is diagnosed with it will need to follow a gestational diabetes diet plan.

In fact this type of diet needs to be followed if an expectant mother has preexisting diabetes as well. The risk of fetal defects and even death are considerably higher with gestational diabetes. Hyperglycemia, or high blood sugar levels, in the mother is the primary cause of any problems caused by this condition. When this happens the fetus will begin to produce large amounts of insulin to deal with the excess glucose (sugar) that is crossing through the placenta.

For many women, back pain and pregnancy go hand in hand, and not surprisingly, there are a number of physical reasons why it occurs. This article will look at some of them.

1. Hormones. During pregnancy, hormones can soften ligaments causing more movement in the joints than usual. In some cases, the ligaments are stretched or strained.

2. Uterus. The growing fetus in the uterus can cause changes in posture which result in lower back pain. As the entire area enlarges, pressure is put on the spine and vertebra.

3. Position of fetus. Especially in the later stages of development, the position of the fetus can compress nerves in the spinal column, causing back pain.

Scoliosis that occurs in infants, and is noticeable when the child is aged between 2 months and 3 years, is called Infantile Scoliosis. This disease is characterized by curvature of the spine that often rectifies itself with the passage of time. Infantile Scoliosis is a rare disease and occurs more commonly in Europe than in the
US.

Although there is agreement among medical practitioners that Infantile Scoliosis occurs predominantly in males, some claim that its causes are largely unknown, while others cite a host of reasons for its occurrence. These causes include tumors, injury, infection, birth defects and nerve and muscle problems. In addition, some researchers claim that nursing the baby at a certain angle may lead to Infantile Scoliosis.

Allergy to cow’s milk is the most prevalent form of food allergy that primarily affects children. Most infants and babies fortunately outgrow cow’s milk allergy during their second to third year of formula milk intake.

Like most allergies, cow’s milk allergy is not curable, but rather, it is treatable. In that sense, people and children born with it should live with dairy-free diets all their lives to avoid cow’s milk allergies.
